Maintenance

Solar energy systems require periodic inspections and routine maintenance to keep them operating efficiently. Also, from time to time, components may need repair or replacement. We strongly recommend that such maintenance is carried out between the months of October and April, otherwise it would not be ideal to carry out such maintenance in view of the high sun temperatures during the other months.

The annual service would include, amongst other things, the checking of all electrical components, such as the electric booster and the thermostat. It is also important for us to check and inspect the magnesium anode for consumption and the water tank for any contaminating deposits. Last but not least, we would need to check the glycol level within the solar collector and the tank system, for maintaining maximum efficiency and longer life operation.

For long-life of your solar heater, below are a few other suggested inspections you may wish to follow:

• Check for excessive dust on collectors. Dusty or soiled collectors will perform poorly. Periodic cleaning may be necessary in dry, dusty climates. Wash with cold water early morning before 10.00 a.m.

• Support structures – check all nuts and bolts attaching the collectors to any support structures for tightness.

• Every 4 years check and paint, if necessary, the support frame with grey colour primer.

• When away from home for long period in summer it would be better to cover the collectors with white cloth (or similar) to prevent overheating.

• If solar heater doesn’t warm up with sunshine, and/or the electric heater is not functioning, kindly contact Arjakon Ltd immediately.

It is also very important to check for any collector shading which may arise. Visually check for shading of the collectors during the day (mid-morning, noon and mid-afternoon) on an annual basis. Shading can greatly affect the performance of solar collectors. Vegetation growth over time, or new construction on your house or your neighbour’s property, may produce shading that wasn’t there when the collectors were installed.

Should you intend to have your system serviced, kindly inform us without delay and have your appointment booked in advance with our servicing department.
